I know of a great many people who know an enormous amount about guitars who are great Yamaha fans including the local Luthier who claims his favourite guitar is a 335 but had to admit when he tried my SA1200S that it was as good, which really means it is better but he couldn't admit that. If they were as great as you say, if not better than Gibsons and priced a bit cheaper you would have thought they would have caught on amongst the cognoscenti but they didn't. Look at any of the Yamaha brochures and you will find lots of professionals who use them I've played them and they were enormously heavy lumps. I recall when Santana got his SG2000 but I can barely think of anyone who used one apart from Stuart Adamson of Big Country.
You are I assume in possession of the worldwide sales figures or number of units sold to back this up? Yamaha is a huge corporation that has tried to push its upper bracket guitars consistently and failed. However I must just answer some of the unfounded statements you have added to what obviously is a sweeping generalisation by it's very nature. Neil I don't intend to turn this thread into an argument about the relevant merits of Yamaha and Gibson, we are never going to agree and I don't want it to get to the stage were it may get a bit heated, that isn't why I am involved with this forum.
